Hey I’m Jess! A family and travel photographer from Southern California.
At the age of nine, I begged my parents for a camera I could call my own, with very bold instructions that it be the color blue. Being the loving and supportive parents that they are, I was gifted a blue Sony Cybershot as my very first camera that captured many childhood memories for me and my family.
In my teenage years, I opted to forgo my strict color desires and upgraded to a beginners DSLR that accompanied me as I headed north along the West Coast to study environmental science in picturesque, Monterey Bay. After completing my undergraduate program I worked as an outdoor educator then field biologist for US Fish and Wildlife where I lived on one of the most untouched reefs in the world, Palmyra Atoll for four months monitoring birds and exploring methods to remove invasive plant species. Oddly enough it was on the most remote atoll where I made connections that led me to corporate life working as a technician in San Francisco with a promotion to operations lead for a disease control project at Google.
Desperate to leave the corporate life I wasn’t ready for, I became a dog trainer and practiced metalsmithing in my free time after two years of art taking an absence in my life. It was then I built a small business for my jewelry and illustrations called Bloom Wildly Studio. Shortly after, I became a mother which is when my love and need for photography bloomed more so than ever before.
With a background in environmental science, graphic design, photography, and motherhood, I bring a unique perspective to my work as a young and growing photographer interested in travel photography and photojournalism.
